Skyblivion Lead Weighs in on Official Oblivion Remaster

The lead of the Skyblivion project has recently addressed the leaks surrounding an official remaster of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. 2025 seems to be the year of Oblivion, as it’s possible that both an official remaster and the fan-made remake could come out in the following months.

Skyblivion is a project that started back in 2012 intending to port Oblivion to Skyrim’s engine. As the years passed, the mod was turned into a full-blown remake of the popular 2000s open-world RPG, and the project is nearly complete. However, rumors about an official Oblivion remaster have been ramping up lately, with Virtuous Games mistakenly leaking images of the seemingly real project.

Amid the buzz of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered being all but officially confirmed, Skyblivion lead project developer Kyle “Rebelzize” Rebel has addressed the remaster. According to Rebelzize, the official remaster “changes nothing,” as Skyblivion was a “passion project” from the start, and it will continue to be so. Rebelzize also considered the Oblivion remaster to be a win-win situation for most fans, as they will get twice the amount of TES 4 in 2025.

Skyblivion Lead Dev Is Not Worried About Oblivion Remastered

This is not the first time that Rebelzize has welcomed the rumored Oblivion Remastered. Back in February, when new rumors about the game started to surface, the developer said that whether they were real or not, it did not affect the development of Skyblivion, as the team was not looking for a profit. Also, he argued that an official remaster could make fans even more curious about the total overhaul mod.

It’s very likely that Skyblivion will be released sometime during 2025. Late last year, the developers shared the current work on Skyblivion, showcasing how most of the world’s landscape, interiors, 3D models, and quests were already complete. While there’s still work to be done, this showcased that the project was reaching its final stages, exciting fans who had been following Skyblivion over the last decade.

Recent rumors indicate that Oblivion Remastered may also launch very soon, becoming available as early as April 21 on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. This recent leak also indicated that the open-world RPG could be a day one release for Xbox Game Pass, which could be excellent news for subscribers. In any case, Bethesda still has not officially confirmed the game’s existence, so it remains to be seen if the leak is accurate about the release date.
