One Piece: Maybe Elbaf Wasn’t Usopp’s Arc After All

This post contains spoilers for One Piece.

Summary

  • Usopp’s character development in the Elbaf arc is minimal, disappointing fans.
  • Eiichiro Oda confirmed that Usopp will always be the weakest Straw Hat member.
  • The crew must gear up for a tough battle against the powerful God’s Knights in Elbaf.

The Straw Hat Pirates are a closely-knit crew that has overcome many hurdles in their journey. All the crew members are crucial and have a role to play in the story. It is also quite clear that they are all equally important, and if even one of them goes missing, the entire crew goes into a state of panic.

Usopp is one of the original crew members who joined in the East Blue Saga. He showed fondness for the Giants of Elbaf before the crew had even set foot on the island. This led many One Piece fans to believe that Usopp would be among the best performers in the Elbaf arc, but from his showing so far, that doesn’t seem to be the case.

The Elbaf Arc Is Not Usopp’s

Oda Has Other Plans For Usopp

  • Usopp will remain weak
  • He will help out the crew in other ways

From his debut, it has been clear that Usopp is a coward who runs at the first sight of danger. But he has said many times that he wants to become a brave warrior of the sea. It is a big challenge for someone like Usopp, who cannot stand in the line of fire.

However, One Piece fans believed that the Elbaf arc would be important for Usopp’s character, and he would finally get over some of his fears. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem Usopp is changing anytime soon.

Usopp’s involvement has been minimal, and he hasn’t played a major role in the fight against the God’s Knights. In Chapter 1146, Usopp did land a hit on Gunko, but she healed right back. After seeing her regenerative powers, Usopp immediately broke down into tears and apologized to the member of the God’s Knights.

Following the incident, Nami had to save Usopp from Gunko’s attack. Considering the strength of the God’s Knights, it’s highly unlikely that Usopp will be able to deal any significant damage to them. So, it’s better to just admit that the Elbaf arc won’t be the one that improves Usopp’s character.

Fans Need To Realize That Usopp Will Never Be Strong

Usopp tries to act tough by mimicking Zoro.

Eiichiro Oda has explicitly stated that Usopp will always remain the weakest member of the Straw Hat Pirates. It doesn’t matter who joins the crew; Usopp will be the weakest. Oda said this method ensured balance within the crew.

Since Oda does not want Usopp to become super-strong like the other Straw Hats, it is impossible that he will become a fearsome fighter. Oda only wants to make Usopp brave, and that doesn’t require strength.

You think I don’t know an Emperor could obliterate every one of us!? —Usopp

For example, Ulti almost cracked Nami’s skull in Wano, but the latter did not back down and reaffirmed her commitment to her captain. She also said that Luffy would become the Pirate King. This incident proves that Nami is more courageous than Usopp. The sniper of the Straw Hats needs to do something similar if he ever wants to accomplish his dream.

The Straw Hats Must Prepare For Another War

The Heroes Must Beat The God’s Knights

Fans already know that the Straw Hat Pirates are currently in the middle of a fierce battle in Elbaf. When they landed on the island, they didn’t know another fierce battle awaited them. The Straw Hats have to fight the God’s Knights, an elite group of fighters devoted to the World Government. The organization is dedicated to protecting the Celestial Dragons from all kinds of harm.

So far, all the members of the God’s Knights have turned out to be incredibly powerful. All of them possess extraordinary Devil Fruit abilities, allowing them to beat their opponents with ease. Moreover, it seems that they also have the power of regeneration, meaning they cannot be killed with normal attacks. So far, the God’s Knights have not displayed any weakness that can be targeted by the heroes.

Hopefully, it will change soon; else the Straw Hats stand no chance of beating them. At this point, Scopper Gaban is their best bet. He is an expert at using Observation Haki, so he might pick up on something that the others couldn’t. There is also a chance that Loki might team up with Luffy to take out the God’s Knights.
