The official Roots of Pacha trailer for the latest update, Sun and Moon, has been unveiled. The popular farming sim debuted on Steam in early 2023 and was followed up over the next 15 months by launches on all major consoles. Roots of Pacha has received mostly positive reviews since its release and is known for taking Stardew Valley-style gameplay and dropping it into the Stone Age. The game has received several updates post-release, with the latest bringing plenty of new content for fans to explore and cultivate the fertile soil in the Land Between Two Rivers.

The Stone Age game was initially helped by a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2021, which raised over $100,000 in capital to support its development. After its Steam launch, Roots of Pacha was released on Switch and PlayStation in the latter half of its debut year alongside update 1.1. The update introduced a bounty of fresh features, including mushroom growing and meat gathering, with the latest one likely to add even more.

The trailer showcased the game’s colorful, cozy graphics and prehistoric farming environments, while highlighting a few features that will be coming, including new regions, characters, animals, and a new dice game. However, the patch notes for the latest update were not included in the release.

Roots of Pacha Update 1.2 was released in July 2024, adding more romance options, skin tones, hair colors, and more. It also launched alongside the game’s release on Xbox, extending its reach to all major platforms. While no patch notes were provided to shine further light on the additions set to feature in the upcoming update, the unveiling of new regions, characters, and animals suggests it could be larger in scale than 1.2.

The trailer took viewers to new lands, including the mountain regions of the Sun God and the islands of the Goddess of the Moon. The narrator explains that these new areas will also feature new characters for players to interact with and unlock the backstory of the tribes who inhabit them. It also showcased some of its trademark farming gameplay, with beets being harvested. Roots of Pacha already has plenty of crops for farming, and it’s yet unknown if the latest update will expand the roster.

For many, Roots of Pacha is one of the best Stardew Valley-like games, with update 1.3 set to add a bunch of new content for fans to enjoy. The team behind the game will be looking to build on an already bright start for the indie farming simulator.
