Stamina works differently in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered than players may be used to, and the Fatigue system is one of the game’s most contentious points. Fatigue is not just used for sprinting and attacking like in other RPGs. Instead, Fatigue dictates melee damage and affects other aspects of combat in Oblivion Remastered.
Because Stamina and Fatigue are so important, it’s a good idea for players to increase their Fatigue as quickly as possible. Thankfully, there are quite a few ways to increase the Fatigue meter in Oblivion. Increasing Fatigue will also level up some other skills in the process, so well-rounded adventurers will naturally boost their Stamina meter as they progress through the game.

How to Increase Fatigue (Stamina) in Oblivion Remastered
There are multiple ways to increase Fatigue in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. The primary way of getting a higher Fatigue/Stamina cap is by increasing the Willpower attribute. In the original game, the player’s maximum Fatigue value was the sum of their Strength, Endurance, Agility, and Willpower attributes. The remastered version of the game changes this so that Willpower has the greatest effect on a character’s total Fatigue. The Agility attribute also slightly contributes to a player’s total Fatigue level, and it also affects how quickly it regenerates. Some Birthsigns provide buffs to the starting values of these attributes for players who want to get a head start.
Every time a level is gained in Oblivion, players can enhance their attributes by a few points. The amount of points a player can dump into an attribute is determined by how many skill points they have gained in related skills. For example, players who spend time leveling up the Armorer and Block skills will be able to add more points to the Endurance attribute when they level up. Improving the Endurance attribute will also increase a character’s maximum Health.
As such, players who want to increase their Fatigue as much as possible should focus on leveling up skills associated with Willpower and Agility. That way, more attribute points will be available upon leveling up. Because these attributes are fairly easy to level just by completing quests and defeating enemies, players will naturally extend their Stamina bars just by playing the game.
What Does Fatigue Do in Oblivion?
Stamina affects quite a lot in Oblivion, much more than just sprinting and power attacks. Firstly, Fatigue governs all melee damage in Oblivion. The lower a player’s Fatigue meter, the less melee damage they’ll do per swing. Spells aren’t affected, though, so players can use magic while they wait for their Stamina to recover during combat.
If a character takes a hit that lowers their Fatigue below zero, they’ll be knocked down until their Fatigue recovers enough. Thankfully, this isn’t as punishing in Oblivion Remastered as it was in the original game, but it still happens. Stamina is recovered at a rate of 10 points per second, and certain healing items and potions can restore Fatigue even faster. Players should keep a close eye on their green Fatigue bars during combat to make sure they don’t accidentally tire themselves out. Using enchantments or potions with the Fortify Fatigue effect will boost a character’s maximum Fatigue value, too.
The Fatigue system can be annoying at times in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, but players can also use the system to their advantage with enchantments and poisons that drain enemies’ Fatigue, making them much more vulnerable to attacks. Players can even design entire builds around the Fatigue system if they desire, leveling up specific skills to sap their enemies’ energy.
