Painting Workshop Guide in Clair Obscur Expedition 33

So, how the Painting Workshop works is that there are three different Workshop locations around the map in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. In each, you will need to platform your way down some picture frames until you reach a Faceless Boy.

By speaking to the Faceless Boy, you will get a key item called the Light of the Beast (a lamp used to awaken “the beast”). Keep heading down to find a mysterious statue, and by interacting with it, you can use the Light of the Beast on it.

Nothing will activate once you do this for the first time, but if you visit all three Painting Workshop locations and use the Light of the Beast three times, the back of the workshop will open, and you can face off against a monster called the Lampmaster.

Defeating it will net you the Noir et Blanc trophy, two Pictos (At Death’s Door and Energising Attack I), and three Grandiose Chroma Catalysts.

Painting Workshop Locations

Workshop 1

There’s technically no order you must follow to visit the three Painting Workshops, but the first one you’re most likely to visit is just northeast of Stone Wave Cliffs.

It’s worth noting that when we completed this “side quest,” our team was around level 80. The Lampmaster at the end is tough and can demolish your team in one swipe. Since you need most of Esquie’s travel abilities to access the workshops, you won’t be able to finish this until much later in the game anyway.

There’s an isle with some monsters on it, as well as a big portrait leaning against the side of a mountain. You can access it once you acquire Esquie and his ability to swim in the ocean.

Workshop 2

For the second one, you can find it as soon as you exit the Forgotten Battlefield map. You’ll be able to access it after you clear the Stone Wave Cliffs. Just walk to the northwest to find it near some trees.

Workshop 3

To find the third Painting Workshop, you will need to have Esquie’s flight ability, which is unlocked towards the end of the story. The workshop is on a really high floating isle just east of Sirene and Sirene’s Dress. You should see the picture frame icon on the map.

You can also get a Perfect Chroma Catalyst by speaking to the Faceless Boy by the exit once you defeat the Lampmaster and solve the mystery. This will let you upgrade a weapon to level 33.
