Oblivion Remastered has been with us for a couple of days now, and things are going great. It’s a perfect return to form for the title, which has turned heads worldwide because it looks phenomenal and retains plenty of the original charm. By that, I mean it’s as buggy as sin, but that’s just what folks wanted from Oblivion in 2025.
However, one gripe that some players have with Oblivion Remastered is that the game keeps eating save files on Xbox and PC. Players are racking up the hours, saving their game, and returning later to find that their game didn’t save successfully, or worse still, that all their saves have disappeared.
Saving Issues
On social media, multiple players have complained that, across PC and Xbox, they’re losing their Oblivion Remastered save files. I’ve witnessed firsthand this bug occurring on Xbox Series X. My household has lost four or five hours of play to this issue, with save files disappearing from the console without warning.
In the Steam space, some users noted that Oblivion Remastered’s file system was acting up and looking in the wrong file path for saves. Some were quick to comment that they’d started over multiple times, creating new characters every time to no avail – the save files are still disappearing.
At the time of publishing, there were almost 100 comments on a thread on the Steam Forum discussing this topic.
On Reddit, players were complaining about this issue from day one, stressing that manual and auto saves were present when they closed the game, but when they booted back up, all their save files had vanished.
On Twitter, I noticed a few people complaining about an error in Oblivion Remastered that flashed up the message ‘Disk Full – Save Failed’, despite that not being the case.
I’ve reached out to Bethesda to see what the story is here, but from what I’ve seen online, many have done that already and the team is unable to replicate the issue.
