Intel Set To Lay Off Over 20% Of Its Staff, Report Claims

Intel is set to announce its plans to lay off over 20% of its current staff, according a new report from Bloomberg.

Per the report, which cites people with knowledge of the situation, the Intel is “aiming to eliminate bureaucracy” with this latest round of layoffs. Bloomberg’s report adds that the hope of the layoffs will be to help “streamline management and rebuild an engineering-driven culture”.

Intel has continued to struggle in recent years and has held numerous rounds of layoffs over the last 12-18 months. In 2024, the company slashed 15,000 jobs to bring its headcount to about 108,900 people by the end of the year. If the 108,900 employee count is accurate, a 20% reduction in workforce would see nearly 22,000 people lose their jobs during a time where cost of living continues to increase.

Intel is scheduled to announce its first-quarter earnings on Friday, April 24 after the market closes. It could be assumed that the company will announce its layoff plans around the time of the call.

Insider Gaming has reached out to Intel for comment on the report, but a response has not been received.
