A number of fake listings have started appearing on eBay for the Nintendo Switch 2, and it seems these are being posted to deter scalpers and bots.
Nintendo Switch 2 Fake Listings Appear on eBay
As spotted by IGN, fake listings for the Nintendo Switch 2 have recently started surfacing, and they are priced similarly to some other listings, but do not include the console. The Nintendo Switch 2 is being sold for varying prices on eBay, ranging from $500 to $2000. But the fake listings only provide players with a printed image of either the console or a pre-order screenshot. The goal of these listings is to make it harder for buyers to find overpriced sellers.
In the description for these fake listings, the posters have clearly stated that they are not selling the console, but only a picture of it. The listing is intended solely for combating ‘bots and scalpers,’ and the seller will not provide any refunds. Some of the fake Nintendo Switch 2 eBay listings have been removed from the platform; however, others remain.
Nintendo already had some measures in place for Switch 2 pre-orders to tackle scalpers. The buyers had to prove their loyalty to the platform to be prioritised in the pre-orders for the new console. However, with everything being online nowadays, it is hard to keep bots and scalpers under control.
