Best RuneScape Dragonwilds Melee Weapons

There are quite a few weapons in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, but melee weapons are the best of the bunch during the current early access phase since they have a dedicated skill line with passive buffs and unique abilities for players to unlock. The first set of melee weapons may seem weak at first, but RuneScape: Dragonwilds quickly adds more powerful clubs, axes, and swords to its arsenal as players explore new regions of Ashenfall.

While bows and staves have their uses in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, melee combat is the main focus for most players. Paired with a sturdy shield, melee weapons can easily take down enemies above a player’s power level as long as they manage their stamina and practice their parry timings. Crafting stronger weapons certainly helps, though, so players should seek out new materials to unlock better recipes to prepare for the challenges ahead.

Best Early Game Melee Weapons in RuneScape: Dragonwilds

Goblin Swingslash RuneScape Dragonwilds

The best early game melee weapons in RuneScape: Dragonwilds are the Bone Club and the Goblin Swingslash. The Bone Club is unlocked after collecting an Animal Bone for the first time, and it’s a considerable upgrade over the standard Stone Club that players have access to at the start of their journey. It’s cheap to craft, too, so repairs and maintenance aren’t major worries.

The Goblin Swingslash is even better, though, but unlocking it is harder. The crafting recipe is a random drop from Goblin Packs. If players get lucky, they’ll find a document called “Vestige: A Cruel Goblin’s Blade” when they open one. Reading that note will unlock the Goblin Swingslash. It requires Leather in addition to the usual crafting ingredients, so a Tannery is needed in order to make one.

Best Mid-Game Melee Weapons in RuneScape: Dragonwilds

RuneScape Dragonwilds Skullsplitter Recipe

Melee weapons in the mid-game stage of RuneScape: Dragonwilds get much more powerful since the game introduces metalworking, so players can use Bronze and Iron to craft more advanced gear. Players also get the choice between one-handed and two-handed weapons as well, further complicating the upgrade process.

The best mid-game melee weapon in RuneScape: Dragonwilds is the Skullsplitter. While the Bronze/Iron Mace is great for one-handed players who want to use a shield and the Bronze/Iron Greatsword is deadly in capable hands, the Skullsplitter provides a nice balance between the two with some added benefits like increased critical hit chance on top. Like the Goblin Swingslash, this weapon recipe is obtained as a random drop from enemies. Instead of goblins, players need to hunt down Garou enemies in the Fractured Plains and open Garou Packs until they find a document containing the recipe.

The Skullsplitter requires Hard Leather on top of the other usual mid-game crafting ingredients like Bronze Bars, so players need an upgraded Tannery in order to craft it. The Tanner’s Kit upgrade requires a lot of Adhesive, which can be farmed alongside Clay in the swamp region. Once players have upgraded their Tannery, they can create Hard Leather by combining normal Leather with Adhesive.

Best Endgame Weapons in RuneScape: Dragonwilds

RuneScape Dragonwilds Abyssal Demon Swamp Location

The best endgame melee weapon in RuneScape: Dragonwilds is the Abyssal Whip, a devastating one-handed weapon that causes bleed build up with each successful strike. Players have to slay an Abyssal Demon in order to craft it, so adequate preparation is required.

To get the Abyssal Spine required to craft the Abyssal Whip, players need to hunt down an Abyssal Demon boss at the west end of the Whispering Swamp. It’s a level four enemy, so players should be kitted out in Bronze/Iron gear before attempting to fight it. When defeated, it drops the Abyssal Whip crafting recipe and an Abyssal Spine.

The Abyssal Whip also requires a Vault Core and some Vault Shards, so players may need to delve into one of Dragonwilds’ dungeons to collect some. Hard Leather is required too, so an upgraded Tannery is necessary. The same goes for Ram Horns, which can be collected from the Stormtouched Highlands. Once all the ingredients have been rounded up, players can craft the Abyssal Whip at a Smithing Anvil.

There are plenty of other melee weapons to discover in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, but these are the best of the best for all stages of the game. It’s still a good idea to diversify and craft some ranged weapons just in case players end up in a dangerous situation, though.
