Classic JRPG Remaster Will Be Launch Day Title for Nintendo Switch 2

Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan and Unification Wars will be part of the upcoming lineup of launch-day titles for the Nintendo Switch 2. The first installment in the iconic JRPG series from Konami debuted way back in 1995, and over the years, it became somewhat of a cult classic for many fans of the genre. The second entry hit consoles shortly after and is broadly regarded as one of the best JRPG titles in history. Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars was released this year and has picked up where the original games left off, with overwhelmingly positive reviews across the board.

The revamped games were originally slated for a 2023 release, but the Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster got hit with delays that forced their release date to be pushed back to 2025. At the time, Konami stated that it needed more time to get the games up to standard before launching. While the delay was disappointing for many fans, the remasters appear to have lived up to their respected predecessors. Now, it seems the classic titles will be getting another life on the Nintendo Switch 2.

Konami and developer Mythril announce a new entry in the long-running Suikoden series, though players can expect one major catch.

As recently reported by Gematsu, the Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster is set to launch alongside the other confirmed launch-day titles for the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, which is scheduled for release on June 5. The Switch 2 version of the collection will also be available in physical form in Asia as a Game Key card, which is common for many third-party releases.This means that players will need to download the entire game from the internet to access it. It’s currently unknown if the physical copy will be available in other regions.

The news may not come as a shock to many who have been following the whirlwind of recent updates surrounding the Switch 2 and its games. Recently, the Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster was listed on the Play-Asia product page with a June 5 release date. Preorders are open on other Japanese sites, lending further credence to the Play-Asia listing, which some people thought might be a mistake.

The Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster joins a bevy of launch titles already confirmed for the Switch 2, including Mario Kart World, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition, and Hogwarts Legacy. However, the price tag for games on Nintendo’s latest console iteration has sparked some controversy among many fans.

Recently, the Nintendo Switch 2’s updated prices were revealed, with titles like Mario Kart World set to retail for $79.99. In contrast, most first-party titles for the original Switch console cost $59.99, with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom being a rare exception at $69.99. However, the Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster is listed with a price tag of $34.99, putting it at the lower end of the price spectrum for Switch 2 games.
