Summary
- Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2 uses Nvidia DLSS for improved performance.
- Switch 2 version offers Quality Mode at 30 FPS & Docked Performance Mode at 40 FPS.
- Handheld Performance Mode upscales to 720p with the same 40 FPS target.
Ahead of the Nintendo Switch 2’s launch, CD Projekt Red confirmed that its upcoming port of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition will utilize Nvidia’s Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) upscaling technology in both Handheld and Docked modes. The Switch 2 version of Cyberpunk 2077 will also include a 30 FPS quality mode, and a 40 FPS performance setting in tandem with variable refresh rate displays.
The news came amid a busy cycle for Nintendo leading up to the Switch 2’s arrival. After delaying Switch 2 pre-orders in the US and Canada due to the Trump administration’s widespread tariffs on global goods, Nintendo confirmed that pre-orders will begin on Thursday, April 24, via retailers like Best Buy and GameStop. Although the Switch 2 console and games will not see a price increase due to tariffs, accessories such as the Switch 2 Pro Controller and USB-C Camera have had their prices slightly bumped up to compensate.

Knowing that the Switch 2 will have a more powerful Nvidia processor than its predecessor, game developers can utilize more advanced features like DLSS to improve performance on the console. As reported by Nintendo Life, CD Projekt Red confirmed to Digital Foundry that Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition will utilize Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling technology on the Switch 2 to increase performance in different ways. Cyberpunk 2077 will give players the option to pick from Quality Mode, which locks the game to 30 frames per second (FPS), or a 40 FPS Performance Mode. Both Quality Mode and Performance Mode will also run differently depending on whether the Switch 2 is in Docked or Handheld Mode, giving players up to four different upscaling options overall.
The Switch 2 Version Of Cyberpunk 2077 Will Use Nvidia DLSS In Docked And Handheld Modes
- Cyberpunk 2077 will use Nvidia DLSS upscaling on the Switch 2.
- Performance and Quality modes will be offered while the Switch 2 console is either in docked or handheld mode.
- Both quality modes and the docked performance setting will run the game at 1080p.
- Handheld performance mode will instead upscale Cyberpunk 2077 to 720p.
Digital Foundry’s Richard Leadbetter stated in DF Direct Weekly episode 210 that the Docked and Handheld versions of Quality mode will target 30 FPS at 1080p, while the Docked Performance mode aims for 40 FPS at 1080p on a compatible 120 Hz display. Handheld Performance mode would use a dynamic resolution of 720p while maintaining the same 40 FPS target as the Docked version. Given that Cyberpunk 2077 will utilize an older version of Nvidia DLSS that is supported by the Switch 2’s custom Tegra processor, DLSS 4 and exclusive features like multi-frame generation will not be utilized.
Cyberpunk 2077 is part of a growing list of third-party games coming to the Switch 2. With Cyberpunk 2077‘s Switch 2 port also arriving on June 5, it remains to be seen how Night City will look on Nintendo’s upcoming system.
