Epic Games Store Free Games for May 1 Revealed

Super Space Club is the Epic Games Store‘s free game for May 1. The newly confirmed freebie is likely to appeal to fans of bullet hell gameplay and lo-fi aesthetics, as it intriguingly combines both elements.

Over the past week, the Epic Games Store has been giving away $100 worth of Firestone Online Idle RPG content, as well as Amanita Design’s humorous point-and-click adventure Botanicula. The two offers expired earlier today, April 24, at 8am PT / 11am ET / 5pm CET.

A newly-launched exploration adventure game, that too free-to-play, is racking up tens of thousands of glowing player reviews on Steam.

As per usual, Epic’s Thursday giveaway rotation has revealed the next free game fans can look forward to: Super Space Club, a 2023 bullet hell title developed by GrahamOfLegend, a one-man indie studio based out of Jamaica. Regularly priced at $14.99, this stylish shooter will be free to claim on the Epic Games Store from May 1 to May 8.

In the meantime, the Epic Games Store is giving away CHUCEL, which became available to claim on April 24. This week’s offerings also include a Free Welcome Gift pack for Albion Online, which includes 250 Learning Points, one mount skin, and three days’ worth of a Premium subscription, among other goodies. While Super Space Club is currently the only confirmed EGS freebie for May 1, additional surprises are never out of the question with Epic. E.g., last week’s giveaways were also announced in stages, with the Firestone Online Idle RPG bundle confirmed a whole five days before Botanicula.

As for the upcoming freebie, Super Space Club offers a unique mix of chaotic shooting and laid-back vibes, combining fast-paced dogfights with a lo-fi soundtrack and bright neon visuals. The game features a single energy meter shared by both shields and weapons, requiring players to constantly balance offense and defense. As gameplay progresses, the tempo steadily increases, drawing players into a hypnotic loop of high-speed action set to a lively yet soothing soundtrack that complements the game’s futuristic aesthetic.

The May 1 giveaway will mark the first time ever that Super Space Club will be free on the Epic Games Store. Over at Valve’s storefront, the sci-fi shooter has never been discounted higher than 55%, dropping from $14.99 to $6.74 during this year’s Spring Steam Sale.
