The Nintendo Switch has been a runaway success, proving that raw power is not the be-all and end-all for consoles. Through a combination of Nintendo’s first-party games, a solid selection of triple-A third-party titles, and all the indie projects anyone could ever want, the Switch has amassed a stellar library that can match most platforms in terms of quality and quantity.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey are two of the greatest games of the last decade, and they debuted within the Switch’s debut year. There is also always a chance that the best Switch game has yet to be released. In just 2023, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime Remastered, Pikmin 4, Super Mario Wonder, and Advance Wars 1 + 2: Re-Boot Camp were all console exclusives. 2024 had quite a few exclusives as well, including games centering around Princess Peach and Zelda. Mario even received two RPGs.
Even though the Nintendo Switch 2 is on the horizon, its predecessor is not disappearing just yet. Utawarerumono & More
April 2025’s Switch lineup has taken shape, although it is not exactly stuffed with major releases. Mandragora is another 2D side-scrolling Soulslike that looks very good, and Lunar Remastered Collection should be a fun JRPG option. Poppy’s Playtime should also make the jump to the Nintendo Switch. Croc: Legend of the Gobbos also debuted on modern consoles, providing an updated version of the cult classic 3D platformer with modern controls.
Early in the month, Nintendo held a direct dedicated to the Nintendo Switch 2, revealing plans for the console to launch in June 2025. At this point, that system’s launch is hogging most of the limelight, and it can be easy to forget that there are still plenty of 2025 Switch games left to drop.

Fantasy Life i, Onimusha, & More
Compared to April, May 2025 looks set to be a decent month for the Nintendo Switch. Console owners have more than a few games to look forward to, including Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time by Level-5. The Japanese developer has a pretty great track record, and there is nothing to suggest this RPG will fail to live up to those high standards.
Onimusha 2 is receiving a remaster, just a few years after its predecessor received a very good update. Remasters and rereleases are a big part of May 2025 in general, as Capcom Fighting Collection 2, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Battle Destiny Remastered, and Ys Memoire: Memories of Celceta are set to launch within the month.

At the moment, June does not seem set to be a particularly strong moment for Nintendo Switch games, which makes sense since all eyes will be on the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2. Still, that system’s predecessor will be receiving new games. The biggest title announced is Tron: Catalyst, an action-adventure project set within Disney’s franchise. That said, System Shock 2 remastered has also been announced, which is a major deal since the immersive sim is considered an all-time great game.

As the month after the Nintendo Switch 2 debuts, July 2025 seems destined to be an afterthought for the original console, especially since quite a few titles will likely land on the new hardware as well. Still, Switch owners have projects that they can look forward to, and July could end up being among the better months of the year when everything is said and done.
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 should be a blast of nostalgia, and both titles are considered masterpieces of their genre. Hunter x Hunter: Nen x Impact should be a fine arena brawler, and Shadow Labyrinth looks good. Tales of the Shire: A Lord of The Rings Game seems set to be a memorable cozy take on the franchise.

It remains to be seen whether the Switch is still remotely relevant by August 2025. Regardless of what happens, a few Switch 2025 games are confirmed for the month, so it is not like the console will be completely discontinued by this point.
Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2 is largely for die-hard fans of the anime and manga, but the first game was a solid arena fighter. Speaking of anime, Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road looks pretty good and should be a considerable step-up from older entries in the series. Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar should hit the mark with farming life sim fans, while Shinobi: Art of Vengeance revives a classic IP in style.

2025 has a long way to go before reaching its final form, and only a handful of months have any titles at all. However, quite a few Nintendo Switch games have announced plans to debut within the year, even if they have opted to hold back on specific dates. Assuming it comes out, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond could very well be the console’s biggest game of 2025, and “the console” qualifier might be unnecessary. Little Nightmares 3 will introduce co-op to the platform-horror series. The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 1st and Mouse: PI For Hire all look great.
