Frostpunk Remake Confirmed for 2027

11 Bit Studios has announced that they are remaking the original Frostpunk, committing to a 2027 release window for Frostpunk 1886.

Frostpunk 1886 is Being Developed on Unreal Engine

During 11 Bit Studios’ recent earnings report, we learned that the next game that was set in the Frostpunk universe will release “as early as 2027”. Now we know that this project is called Frostpunk 1886, and it is a remake of the original title, built on an entirely new engine.

While working on Unreal Engine 5 for Frostpunk 2, the developers realised the limitations of their own Liquid Engine and decided to go back to the drawing board to redo their first game in a new engine. With the remake, the developers aim to provide enhanced visuals, new content, laws, updated mechanics, additional events, improved technologies, and more, leveraging the capabilities of Unreal Engine.

Frostpunk 1886 Confirms Mod Support

One of the features that fans have been asking for since the longest time is now a possibility in the upcoming title. 11 Bit Studios have confirmed that thanks to Unreal Engine 5, Frostpunk 1886 will have mod support as the new engine helps add “new content, future DLCs, and even community-driven content”. The Steam page for Frostpunk 1886 is live now, too.

The developers have confirmed that work on Frostpunk 2 will not stop, with “free major content updates, a console launch, and DLCs” on the way. You can check out the roadmap here.
