Over the years, the open-world of Genshin Impact has come a long way since the game was first released in 2020. In the current version 5.5 update, players can explore several massive, unique regions and subregions across Teyvat. Going forward, Genshin Impact’s ongoing story will continue to expand into more regions for players to explore, potentially even becoming one of the biggest open-world games.
While nothing has been officially confirmed about which new region will arrive in Genshin Impact’s 6.0 update, some of the latest leaks and rumors suggest that it will be the Nod-Krai subregion. If these leaks are true, that means the highly anticipated Snezhnaya region might not arrive until the version 7.0 update arrives. Although the Snezhnaya region arriving later than initially expected might seem like a cause for frustration, in the long run, introducing the Nod-Krai subregion first could end up being the perfect way to handle Snezhnaya.

Genshin Impact’s upcoming five-star Cryo character, Escoffier, could be a game-changer for Hydro and Cryo Freeze team compositions in version 5.6.
Genshin Impact’s Nod-Krai Subregion Could Be the Perfect Appetizer for Snezhnaya’s Main Course
Originally, the Snezhnaya region was widely believed to be the focus of Genshin Impact’s version 6.0 and subsequent updates after the current Natlan region arc comes to an end. However, the most recent leaks instead suggest that the Nod-Krai subregion will be the entire focus of the version 6.0 updates, and that the highly anticipated Snezhnaya region may not arrive now until version 7.0. This long detour to the Nod-Krai subregion might seem like bad news for players who are eager to meet the Cryo Archon and otherwise carry on with Genshin Impact’s ongoing story after where the Natlan region’s Archon story leaves off, but this approach might ultimately be for the best.
According to the latest leaks and rumors for Genshin Impact, the version 6.0 update is currently predicted to release around September 2025, and the version 7.0 update around mid-2026.
While technically still a part of Snezhnaya, the Nod-Krai subregion existing on the border allows it to be somewhat independent of some of the harsh realities of the Snezhnaya region. More specifically, the local weather is likely less harsh, and the political climate less extreme compared to the mainland. So, for the sake of the unique narrative and gameplay elements of the Snezhnaya region, this could make the Nod-Krai subregion the perfect segue before players journey into the infamous Snezhnaya region.
The Nod-Krai Subregion Could Ease Players Into Gameplay Mechanics Exclusive to the Snezhnaya Region
From what’s been revealed about the Snezhnaya region so far, this region is believed to have harsh winter weather. Presumably, the weather of this region will present a layer of survival gameplay mechanics to the Genshin Impact, similar to how the cold-weather mechanics of Dragonspine Mountain can be lethal to players, except the Snezhnaya region’s weather is likely far more extreme in comparison. Consequently, it might be necessary for players to scavenge for cooking ingredients in the Nod-Krai subregion or otherwise obtain some kind of personal gadget that allows for safe traversal through the Snezhnaya region’s freezing weather.
Nod-Krai Could Hold the Key to Uncovering the Fatui Harbingers’ Secrets and Weaknesses
Another potential benefit of making players begin their journey through Snezhnaya in the Nod-Krai subregion is that this could provide the room to expand the narrative of the Fatui Harbingers. Aside from the few Fatui Harbingers in Genshin Impact whom players have gotten to meet firsthand so far, there is still a lot of mystery surrounding this central antagonist group, and allowing players to freely roam into the region that’s under the control of the Fatui Harbingers could undermine their perceived authority and strength. So, by spending time in the outskirts of the Snezhnaya region in Nod-Krai, players could potentially recruit allies and learn more about the Fatui Harbingers, preparing before inevitably encountering any more of these dangerous characters.
