Jujutsu Kaisen Fans Upset With New Message From Gege

Gege Reveals Gojo Only Died Because He Wasn’t Paying Attention

Jujutsu Kaisen’s manga was quite phenomenal during its incredible run, especially when the final arc started and the battle between Gojo and Sukuna commenced. That battle was absolutely stunning, and certainly the most intense head-to-head fight in the series. Although the fight was largely even, in the end, Sukuna used Megumi’s body to make use of Mahoraga and bypass Gojo’s Infinity. While Gojo had the upper hand, he suddenly died in the next chapter. This never made much sense to fans, as the attack that hit Gojo should have been easily dodged. After all, Gojo had the Six Eyes, and can easily see cursed energy. This attack, the World Splitting Dismantle, was used on Kashimo as well, and was dodged.

Gege just revealed at the Jujutsu Kaisen event in Tokyo, Japan, how Gojo died and the main reason why he lost, and fans are outraged. Gege reveals that the only reason Sukuna’s attack killed Gojo is because he was not paying attention after he thought he defeated Sukuna. Here’s what Gege had to say exactly:

“The slash that hit Gojo happened right after he said ‘This is Gojo’s win.’ I think he let his guard down after defeating Mahoraga. At that point, he believed Sukuna had no way to counter Limitless anymore.” – Akutami Gege

It’s easy to see why fans are angry. One fan said “Satoru Gojo you deserved better, I’m sorry Gege was your author”, and another said, “If only he didn’t hate Gojo.” Many similar comments were made.

Of course, fans are upset because this death was very forced, and easily avoidable for Gojo. Had Gojo paid attention, he could have easily defeated Sukuna and the fight would have been won, and everyone would have had a happy ever after.

“In all the heavens and the earth, I Alone Am The Honored One” — Gojo Satoru

However, of course, such an easy win against Sukuna wouldn’t have made for an interesting ending. But, fans would have definitely preferred if Gojo’s loss made a bit more sense and wasn’t based on Sukuna just getting lucky.

Despite all that, Jujutsu Kaisen fans who are angry about Gojo’s death should remember to not harass the creator of the series, Gege Akutami. At the end of the day, this is his series, and Gojo was too powerful to keep around, so he had to be taken out one way or another to give other characters a chance to shine, especially Yuji.

“But no matter how many allies you have around you, when you die, you’ll be alone.” — Gojo Satoru

The Jujutsu Kaisen event was still very interesting and revealed a lot of interesting new information aside from why Gojo lost. For example, Gege also revealed his inspiration behind Megumi’s character, and his original plans for Gojo Satoru. All this will only enrich the story even more.
