As players level up their party members in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, they will earn points that can be used to upgrade their attributes and unlock skills. The allocation of those points is not permanent, though, as it is possible to repeatedly reset a character’s attributes and skill tree. This respeccing in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is connected to the game’s Recoat material, and this guide details where it is found and how it is used.
The list of Recoat sources that is contained within this guide reveals the names of several locations. For players who wish to avoid those types of spoilers, it may be enough to say that Recoats primarily come from Petanks, from map bosses, from merchants, and as items that can be found on the ground.

Where to Get Recoats in Clair Obscur Expedition 33
Players who want to reallocate a character’s attributes or skill points will need to get their hands on a Recoat. Fortunately, this item is not extremely rare, and players are likely to earn many of them through exploration and combat. That said, here is a list of early-game sources that players may find helpful:
- The bosses at the end of maps occasionally award Recoats when defeated, including the one at the end of Flying Waters and the one at the end of Stone Wave Cliffs.
- Petanks award 1x Recoat when defeated. These enemies can be found on several early-game maps, including the Ancient Sanctuary, Stone Wave Cliffs, and Esquie’s Nest.
- The Gestral Merchant in the Gestral Village’s Bazaar sells 1x Recoat. Players will find that many Merchants that they encounter throughout the game also sell the material.
- Recoats occasionally appear as purple objects on the ground. For instance, players can find one near the Gestral Gambler in Gestral Village.
