Last Epoch’s crafting system lies at the heart of the game’s gearing experience. With it, players can get perfectly-rolled items containing all the stats they want for their build, and yes, this system can be used to make Legendary equipment too.
Legendary items offer the best stats and effects players can get in Last Epoch, but such power comes at a price — before you can get your own Legendary item, you need to find some Exalted gear and a Unique with Legendary Potential. The latter is especially important for this, so here’s a quick overview of how it works.

How Does Legendary Potential Work in Last Epoch?
Legendary Potential (LP) is essentially the same as regular Forging Potential for all your other items, except it is specifically for Unique items only. All Uniques have a chance to drop with LP, though the rate at which they do differs from item to item. If your Unique has LP, you’ll be able to add affixes to it (albeit in a different way compared to normal items).
Stronger Uniques tend to have a lower chance of dropping with LP, while less powerful ones have a higher chance of getting LP. A Unique item can get up to 4 Legendary Potential, but the odds of getting such an item are very low. Uniques have different chances of dropping with varying numbers of LP, and third-party tools like LastEpochTools can help you find the exact numbers for them.
How to Forge Legendary Items
If you want to create your own Legendary Items, you’ll first need a Temporal Sanctum key, a Unique with Legendary Potential, and an Exalted-rarity item that you want to sacrifice. Unlike regular forging, Legendary crafting requires you to basically feed a whole item to your desired Unique item. Doing so will destroy the former and transfer some of its affixes to the latter.
Once you have the items you want to use and a dungeon key, head to the Temporal Sanctum dungeon in the Imperial Era Majasan Desert. Complete the dungeon, and you’ll reach the Temporal Sanctum proper, which contains the Eternity Cache. Interact with the cache, then place your Unique and Exalted items.
After confirming the two items you want to merge together, warp time forward to the Ruined Era, then claim your Legendary item from the Eternity Cache. Your Unique’s LP will be consumed, and it will gain a number of the Exalted item’s affixes based on how much LP the Unique had at the time.
You can get Temporal Sanctum keys as rare drops in high-level areas (level 54 and above), though the best way to get some is to farm the Monolith of Fates, as there will be maps that guarantee key rewards. Exalted items also drop somewhat frequently in Monolith runs, and you can farm for Uniques there too.
