Marvel Rivals players have launched a “support strike” following negative comments directed at Strategist mains. The Strategists function as supports in Marvel Rivals, and one of their roles is to keep allies at full health. However, these characters have more ways of helping their teammates than healing.

Luna Snow, for example, can use her freezing abilities to be faster than other heroes, increase the damage output of her allies, and reduce enemies’ firepower, making her one of the best Strategists in Marvel Rivals. In addition to healing, Invisible Woman can create shields to protect teammates from incoming damage and even make them temporarily undetectable, allowing them to escape from tricky situations. Strategists are an important aspect of Marvel Rivals, just like Vanguards and Duelists. However, this part of the community is using social media to express their frustration with other players.

In March, former Overwatch player Vladan ‘Necros’ Konstantinov criticized Marvel Rivals players who play Strategist, calling them “idiots” and “morons.” His comments generated a chain reaction on social media, such as the post by Reddit user Revolutionary-Ad6480, who shared a disagreement with Necros’ words and called for a “support strike,” a movement for Strategist mains to instead play Marvel Rivals as Duelist or Vanguard. In the text they also express their frustration with the treatment they receive from other players, talking about a match in which they had almost 50,000 healing and two deaths, with only 10,000 damage received. According to them, one of their teammates used voice chat to offend them and say that “Necros was right.”

Why Are Marvel Rivals Players Stopping Playing as Strategist?

While some players agreed with Necros’ comments, other players and the OP strongly disagreed, and several even stopped playing the role altogether. In the post, they added that players choose Strategist not because they’re bad, and that they can play Marvel Rivals’ DPS characters. Instead, they say the reason players lock Strategist is that it’s fulfilling to keep teammates alive. On Twitter, Sentinels’ Marvel Rivals team Strategist Chassidy “aramori” Kaye expressed sympathy for her fellow support players. She says that Marvel Rivals Season 2 is the hardest to play as a Strategist, as it’s easy to get attacked by an opponent if players don’t think critically about everything.

In the comments section of Revolutionary-Ad6480’s post, several players shared their opinions on why they like playing support and disagreed with the streamer’s opinion. Other Redditors suggested Marvel Rivals players choose characters outside their usual roles, helping to increase empathy about the ups and downs other players go through. Additional comments also suggested Strategists ignore Necros and continue playing the game.
