After a pro Marvel Rivals streamer bashed players who play the main support role, a number of players who play Strategist have gone on “strike,” refusing to play healer.
What Happened to All the Healers in Marvel Rivals?
The “strike” is in response to comments from Vladan “Necros” Konstantinov, a former Overwatch pro who like many others switched over to Marvel Rivals when it was released. Back in March, Necros lashed out at support players in Marvel Rivals, calling them “idiots” and “morons.”
These comments manifested in rampant discussion on X, Reddit, and TikTok, splitting the community. Those on the support/strategist side say that comments like Necros’ demean support players, and further encourage players not play them. As response to these comments, and those from players who agree with Necros, a number of support players have stopped playing the role or playing Marvel Rivals altogether.
A post currently on top of the Marvel Rivals subreddit with nearly 9,000 upvotes from a self-identified strategist explains why the “support strike” is necessary. They claim that statements like his “from a big voice in the community [do] real damage. We just want basic respect. It’s tiring to be called brain dead or worthless when your stats are solid and you’re playing your role the way it’s meant to be played.” Many of the top comments in the thread encourage support players simply to ignore voices like Necros’ and just play the game.
One of the top pro support players, Sentinels’ Chassidy “aramori” Kaye, expressed sympathy for support players, claiming it’s currently “the hardest season to play strategist in so far.”
