A Minecraft Java Edition player has come up with a way to build a functioning ski lift following the game’s latest snapshot adjustment to how leads work. The Minecraft build is easy enough to recreate, but it’s also amusing due to the parts necessary to make it work.
Minecraft regularly undergoes updates, and Minecraft Java Edition recently got Snapshot 25w16a, which made a number of changes to the way that leads work. One of the changes allows players to leash friendly mobs directly to boats, which is integral to this particular build.

On Reddit, user j-raine shared that they had created a working ski lift by way of the new lead mechanics. A brief video demonstrates how the build works. At the very top of the ski lift, a minecart holding a pig rides an automated powered rail line. The pig is connected via a lead to a boat dangling a few feet beneath the rail, which is itself connected by a lead to a second boat, which also has a pig sitting inside of it. J-raine hops onto the pig on the very bottom and hits the button to start the minecart at the very top, and zooms out, demonstrating their ski lift in action.
Minecraft Fans Are Impressed at Clever Build
Fans in the comments have been quick to share how impressed they are with the build, but there was also a lot of confusion and curiosity about how it works. Some thought it was funny that pigs were incorporated into the build, but they actually are pretty important. J-raine explained that it might be possible to replace the pig riding the rail at the top with another Minecraft boat, but the pig at the bottom, which the player rides on, was necessary. If a player tries to ride a boat that’s being dragged by a lead ordinarily, the lead will break, and the rail cart would have left them behind. However, if players are riding something like a pig within the boat, the lead won’t break, and they get carried along with the boat. The boat in the middle, they added, was only placed there to make the ski lift move more smoothly and to ensure no clipping suffocation issues occurred for the rider.
Minecraft‘s regular tweaks and updates have helped to keep the game feeling fresh after all these years, and new mechanics often lead to curious or helpful Minecraft builds like this one. For now, these lead changes are limited to the most recent Snapshot update, so if fans want to recreate this build, they’ll need to check that out or wait for it to launch in a future standard update.
