This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Elbaf arc.
Summary
- The Holy Knights have a regeneration power that makes them nearly immortal.
- The Five Elders also possess a similar regeneration ability, received from Imu.
- Conqueror’s Haki is the only known counter to the Holy Knights’ regeneration.
The Elbaf arc of One Piece sees Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates go up against some extremely powerful monsters in the form of the Holy Knights. For the very first time, the Holy Knights, teased by Oda through Dragon in Egghead, are making their move, and it is safe to say that they’ve been more than just impressive. The Holy Knights have a formidable leader in Shamrock Figarland who leads from the front, and given that he’s the elder twin of Shanks, fans know that he’s very powerful.

Zoro will get more power ups in One Piece. This next one will take him to Yonko level.
However, the remaining members of the Holy Knights are also very powerful, as seen in the latest One Piece chapters. Most importantly, the Holy Knights possess a remarkable ability that allows them to regenerate from any and all damage that is inflicted on them. This essentially makes them immortal, and this ability was even above Luffy in Egghead. That said, Oda has already revealed the counter to this regeneration.
The Regeneration Power Of The Five Elders And The Holy Knights
- The Five Elders Could Regenerate In Egghead
- The Holy Knights Can Regenerate Infinitely
The Holy Knights are not the only individuals in One Piece who have access to regeneration. In fact, they’re not even the first ones to show this ability. Fans should remember that the main antagonists of the Egghead arc, the Five Elders, all had access to this ability. All members of the Five Elders could regenerate effortlessly. No matter what was thrown at them, they could simply reform their bodies. In their fight against Luffy, the Yonko clearly had the upper hand in battle. But, it was the regeneration that he couldn’t crack. In the end, even Luffy had to run from the Elders, which goes to show that he failed to figure out their biggest weakness in Egghead.

The Holy Knights are stronger than fans initially thought. Oda just revealed their ultimate power in One Piece.
In Elbaf, this regeneration ability was surprisingly used by the Holy Knights as well. Gunko, despite taking a ton of damage from Usopp, regenerated as if it were a piece of cake. In doing so, she also overpowered five members of the Straw Hat Pirates, a Yonko crew, on her own, which includes the 1.1 Billion berry pirate, Jinbe, a man who openly traded blows with Big Mom in the past.
Imu’s Ability To Regenerate
Coming over the regeneration ability of the Five Elders and the Holy Knights, fans know that it stems directly from Imu. In Egghead, it was clear to the fans that the Elders got their powers from Imu, especially because they were able to strip Saturn of his powers easily and kill him. Similarly, the power of the Abyss that both the Five Elders and the Holy Knights possess also belongs to Imu. This power all connects to the sovereign of the world, and the key to beating the regeneration should thus be to counter Imu’s powers itself.
The Counter To The Regeneration Has Already Been Revealed
Very Strong Conqueror’s Haki Can Bypass The Regeneration
So far, Oda has revealed one counter to the overpowered ability to regenerate back in Egghead, and that is the power of Conqueror’s Haki. To be specific, it was Emet who used Joy Boy’s strongest Haki in Egghead, and using it, he was able to negate the summoning of the Abyss from Saturn, and at the same time, their demonic transformations as well. All the Elders felt pain from Joy Boy’s Conqueror’s Haki, and even Imu, the one who is the primary user of the ability felt the pain in their body.
Simply put, the regeneration of the Holy Knights in Elbaf can only be countered using strong Conqueror’s Haki. Even Luffy cannot do that right now, despite having good Conqueror’s Haki, which means he has to work on his ability in Elbaf. Thankfully, Scopper Gaban is there and it is likely he’ll show them how to get past the defenses of the Holy Knights.
