General Velgar is the major boss that you face in RuneScape Dragonwilds, and it harnesses the elemental power of the earth and puts down poison to take you out quickly. It can be tricky to defeat, and you’d need to prepare well to take it down.
The notorious dragon is the one who flies over the starting base in Bramblemead Valley and occasionally spits poison on your base, which damages you and can also prove to be lethal if you’re not careful enough. How to get the Challenger Horn to start the General Velgar boss fight
To start your fight with the General Velgar dragon boss, you need to follow your main quest called Dragon Slayer, where you need to interact with the Wise Old Man to complete a series of tasks like hunting a deer for the antlers and then interacting with Cathan in front of the tower. The ghost will tell you about the Challenger Horn, and you’ll need to craft this item.
To make it, you need to have Artisan level 15 skill and have the Smithing Anvil. After that, collect one Dragon Tooth from the Stormtouched Highlands region with an Iron Pickaxe. You also need one Bloodwood Sap from the Bloodblight Swamps region on the map. Lastly, make five Bronze Bars by smelting copper and tin ore at the furnace. Now, you should be able to craft the Challenger Horn and be ready to take on the General Velgar boss.
How to defeat General Velgar boss in Runescape Dragonwilds
Before going to the boss fight, you need to make sure that you have a ranged weapon like a strong bow, health potions, and a few weak antipoison potions. The last item can be tricky to make if you haven’t come across ingredients like Harralander, which is a herb found in the Whispering Swamp region, Bittercap Mushroom, and Clay Vessel. You’ll need to mix them all inside a brewing cauldron to make the antipoison potion, which is very essential for the fight.
After going to the Velgar’s High location, you can place the Challenger Horn in the center to start the fight. Velgar has two types of attacks, and you can easily dodge them by using your roll. The first attack allows Velgar to poison the floor below you, and you start taking damage once the poison meter is filled up to the brim. However, if you have used the antipoison potions, the poison doesn’t even affect you, and you can ignore this attack completely. The other attack of Velgar allows him to send ground attacks, which slowly crawl up to you and blast on impact. The number of ground attacks increases over time, and you need to dodge them at the very last second, as they follow you around until the end.
Velgar has four mini health bars. Whenever his health drops below these markers, he rises in the air, becoming untargetable and raining down poison on the ground. Again, if you have the potion on you, it shouldn’t be much of a worry.
After defeating the mighty dragon, you should get General Velgar’s head, and you can use the Lodestones to teleport back to the Old Wise Man to claim the rewards. You can get the Tomb of the Dragon Slayer by gaining experience, Dragon Visage, a new material, and Anti-Dragon Shield to face deadly enemies like the upcoming dragon overlord, Imaru, mentioned in the roadmap.
