RuneScape Dragonwilds roadmap: Dragon Overlord Imaru, new region, and upcoming skills

The roadmap for RuneScape Dragonwilds is out, and it highlights the arrival of the fearsome Dragon Overlord Imaru, a sprawling new region to explore, and the long-awaited introduction of new skills to diversify everyone’s kits and grant new magical abilities.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds has already amassed impressive numbers on Steam. The game is currently in early access, and the developers are set to add new content for the players while also focusing on improving the current gameplay experience. There’s much more to unpack in terms of content, so let’s dive in.

Here’s a look at all the confirmed upcoming updates to RuneScape Dragonwilds mentioned in the roadmap by Jagex:

Imaru, the Soul-Eater, joins the party as the next Dragon Overlord

If General Velgar has been giving you sleepless nights in Ashenfall, the Soul-Eater Imaru will be the next on the line. While we don’t have details on his attacks, it should be harder to defeat than General Velgar.

The poison has been Velgar’s biggest strength in the boss fights, and the dragon even splits poison in your base near the second region. He doesn’t do that after you defeat him, but Imaru might also bring a similar mechanic, where he might spawn fallen goblins or other enemy NPCs back to life. The “Soul Eater” could also mean that the boss loves to siphon your health, making it difficult to take it down.

There’s also a new enemy type called Lesser Dragons on the horizon, which might be a smaller version of the dragon boss enemies, and they might have better rewards for the players.

Fellhollow is the new region for Ashenfall, and the dead are coming alive..

Fellhollow is described as the region which is “suspended between life and death,” and it joins the map of Ashenfall. It is also ruled by Imaru, whose mind has been twisted by the wild anima of the region and the cursed energy of the Underworld, which might suggest that the resurrection of the enemies is possible.

If you’ve played RuneScape before, you’ll definitely find a familiar face in Death. He should guide and task players to fight enemies in the new region, but ghosts, skeletons and a lot of undead enemies should be coming for your head.

New skills to find more playstyles and active abilities

Currently, only the Melee class has skills to upgrade and gain passive buffs, along with active abilities that they can use in battles. Using the attack skill three, they can reduce the stamina cost of these attacks and also perform special moves to take down enemies. The game already has the Magic and Ranged skills listed in the menu, but they should have more passive buffs and active abilities for the players to use.

This should encourage more players to try out diverse playstyles and make teams perform better against all types of enemies. Lastly, Farming is the new skill that is going to get added to the skills menu, and it might allow players to to grow specific vegetables in their backyard while also gaining magical abilities to quickly sow seeds or harvest them easily. Lastly, the developers are also raising the skill caps, which should add more abilities to every existing in-game skills.

New quests, lore, gear and music for different regions are also coming

If you’ve already progressed deep into the game, you’ll slowly feel the lack of quests, lore, and gear to build. Thankfully, the developer is already hard at work, and they’ll keep adding new stuff to make the mid to end-game more exciting for the players, including a Dragon Slayer gear, Masterwork weapons, new animal types, vaults, and crafting tiers for the players.

They’re also adding an Expanded base or Homesteading for players to build defences, which protects them against hunts in the night. Moreover, they’re introducing modes like Hardcore and Creative, which should allow players to better personalize their experiences in Ashenfall.

Ongoing improvements to make the existing title better

The developer is also looking to add messaging and tutorialization to help players communicate and learn the basics of the game better. They’re also working on combat, performance optimization, multiplayer, and lighting and weather to make it a better experience for the players.
