Stardew Valley: How to Get Dinosaur Egg

As players build up their farms in Stardew Valley, they will gain the ability to raise many different animals in special barn buildings. While the majority of Stardew Valley‘s animals can be purchased through Marnie, there are some that can only be gotten through special means.

One of the special animals that even some seasoned Stardew Valley players may not know about are dinosaurs. Some may already know about the Pepper Rex enemies that can be found in Skull Cavern, but not the dinosaurs that players can raise in their coops on their farms.

How to Get Dinosaur Egg

Dinosaur Egg Locations in Stardew Valley (1.6)

There are a few ways to get a Dinosaur Egg

in Stardew Valley. The most known way is to get one by defeating Pepper Rex monsters in the Skull Cavern. With 1.6 update, a new method to get a Dinosaur Egg was included in the game:

• When you’re exploring Skull Cavern, you may end up on a Prehistoric Floor. The Prehistoric Floors are Infested Floors that have a very low percentage of spawning from Floor 7 and lower with some exceptions. Here, you can fight Pepper Rex enemies, which have a 10% chance of dropping a Dinosaur Egg upon defeat.
• You can win a Dinosaur Egg during any season from the Crane Game at the movie theater. Check the foliage in the crane game for rare prizes like the egg.
• If you fish up treasure chests or dig up artifact spots in the Stardew Valley Mountains, you may end up netting a Dinosaur Egg.
• In 1.6, if you have a pet dog with max friendship, it’ll sometimes bring you a Dinosaur Egg when you go to pet it during the morning/day.

Where to Use Dinosaur Egg

Dinosaur Eggs in Stardew Valley 1.6

Donate to Museum

Despite being an egg, the Dinosaur Egg is classified as an Artifact rather than an animal product. This means you can donate it to the museum. You can check whether you donated the egg or not by hovering over the item in your menu. If the Dinosaur Egg description reads “Gunter can tell you more about this if you donate it to the museum,” then you haven’t donated it yet. Like with all donations, once the Dionsaur Egg is played in the museum, you can’t get it back.

Hatch a Dinosaur

As stated earlier, you can incubate and hatch Dinosaur Eggs to get Dinosaurs. They won’t grow as large as the Pepper Rex monsters in Skull Cavern, nor can they breathe fire, but they’ll lay Dinosaur Eggs when they mature.

Get Dinosaur Mayonnaise

Once you start collecting Dinosaur Eggs, you can place them into a Mayonnaise Machine to make Dinosaur Mayonnaise. This sells for 800g, but you’ll want to hold onto at least one jar of Dinosaur Mayonnaise for the Junimo package (Movie Theater).

Give as a Gift

Dinosaur Eggs can be given as gifts to other characters. In Stardew Valley 1.6, the Dinosaur Egg is a liked gift for Alex, Dwarf, Penny, and Demetrius. It’s disliked by everyone else.

Tailoring

If you use a Dinosaur Egg in the Sewing Machine at Emily’s house, or from the one Emily gives you for completing “Rock Rejuvenation,” you can get a Dinosaur Hat accessory. If you use Dinosaur Mayonnaise, you’ll get Dinosaur Pants instead.

Sell

Lastly, you can sell Dinosaur Eggs. In general, Dinosaur Mayonnaise sells more than a Dinosaur Egg of iridium quality. If you have the Artisan profession, then you can sell it for 1120g instead. Generally, you’ll want to turn Dinosaur Eggs into Dinosaur Mayonnaise if you intend to make a profit. The only exception is if you’ve read the Treasure Appraisal Guide (1.6 version). In that case, any Dinosaur Egg that is silver star or higher should be sold outright instead of turned into mayonnaise.
