Netflix’s live-action One Piece remake has been a resounding success, especially among its other live-action anime counterparts. With the great reception that the series has received from viewers, fans wonder which other sagas from the manga the One Piece live-action adaptation will cover. Since the creators seem keen on expanding the pre-time skip universe of One Piece, it would be ideal if they could reach one of this era’s most iconic sagas: Water 7.
A true fan favorite, Water 7 has all the elements encapsulating what One Piece is truly about. It also highlights Eiichiro Oda’s storytelling prowess. If Netflix’s One Piece season 2 live-action adaptation performs well upon release, the likelihood of it getting greenlit for more seasons increases. With the existing CGI and practical effects used on the series, there’s no doubt that the remake will do justice to the manga, especially the Water 7 saga.

There’s been tons of jawdropping over the course of the One Piece story, but these are among the most impactful and memorable.
One Piece’s Water 7 Saga Is a Masterclass in Storytelling
Like other sagas in One Piece, Water 7 comprises several arcs. The most important ones that should be the series’ focal point, though, include the Water 7 Arc, the Enies Lobby Arc, and the Post-Enies Lobby Arc. Throughout these three arcs, the fans will experience all the ups and downs that the Straw Hats go through as a crew and as friends. What starts as a mission to have their ship, the Going Merry, fixed and find a shipwright to join their crew spirals into a series of events that no one could have predicted.
The chemistry that the Straw Hats from the East Blue have built in season 1 of the live-action show will cause fans heartbreak when the inevitable rift happens. Viewers of the Netflix show who have not read the manga or seen the anime will be in for a surprise when they witness Usopp and Luffy falling out and fighting in a duel. Jacob Romero Gibson, who plays Usopp, and Iñaki Godoy, who plays Luffy, are sure to do justice to the scene that broke the hearts of the Straw Hats and fans across the globe.
However, Usopp isn’t the only one who leaves the group. Robin mysteriously disappears and later renounces her place as a Straw Hat crew member. This catalyzes the major plot of the Water 7 saga. On top of that, the Going Merry will be at her limit at this point in the story. Many friends will seemingly be lost along the way. At the same time, the Straw Hats also deal with a secret group of assassins under the World Government.
The plot gets thicker, and the secrets grow darker. It’s also best to note that Water 7 clarifies questions from the past while foreshadowing future events, proving that Oda is the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) when it comes to manga.
Iconic One Piece Scenes Come From Water 7
One Piece has multitudes of epic scenes, some of which can be found in the Water 7 saga. From the nail-biter battles in Enies Lobby to the moment the Going Merry rescues the Straw Hats, there is no shortage of scenes worth recreating in Netflix’s One Piece live-action adaptation. But among these scenes, these two are guaranteed to be seared into the minds of all the viewers.
Nico Robin Screaming “I want to live!” in Enies Lobby
After seeing her friends go through hell and back to rescue her, one of Robin’s genuine fears resurfaces — she fears being abandoned by her friends after they realize she only brings trouble. However, now that he knows her story, Luffy asks the mysterious Sogeking to shoot the World Government flag. Seeing it burn, Robin feels moved. And when Luffy cries out, telling Robin she has to say that she wants to live, she finally gives in.
Throughout her life, people have told Robin that she doesn’t deserve to exist. But now, with Luffy and her friends making her feel otherwise, she finally gains the courage to say what she always wanted to say — “I want to live!” This milestone for Robin gave the Straw Hats even more reason to fight and rescue their friend.
The Funeral of the Going Merry
The Going Merry sails away from Enies Lobby, carrying all the Straw Hats and their allies onboard. As she does, she splits in half. The crew crosses paths with the Galley-La Company at sea. The mayor of Water 7, and president of the company, Iceburg, reminds them of a cruel truth — they need to let Merry go. With a heavy heart, Luffy agrees.
Iñaki’s ability to channel Luffy will translate well into this tearjerker. As the crew’s captain, Luffy lights up the ship and gives the Going Merry a funeral at sea. All the Straw Hats recall their moments with Merry, and she gives her final farewell to them, too. With this scene recreated in the One Piece live-action remake, there will not be a dry eye in the room.
Fans Need to See a Live-Action Franky and the Mysterious Sogeking
Iconic moments from the manga aren’t the only things fans can look forward to being recreated in the live-action series. After all, everyone deserves to meet two characters from the Water 7 saga: Franky and Sogeking.
Cyborg Franky
Although Franky gets off on the wrong foot when he first meets the Straw Hats, he eventually grows on them and vice versa. He was even the one who built the Straw Hats’ new ship, the Thousand Sunny. With how brilliantly Netflix’s One Piece translates the effects shown in the manga and anime, Franky’s technologically advanced “robotic” body is worth anticipating, too.
Sogeking
Water 7 wouldn’t be complete without the mysterious man who helped save Robin in Enies Lobby. Although fans love making jokes about who he could be, everyone (except Luffy and Chopper) knows it’s actually Usopp wearing a mask. With Jacob being such a charismatic and endearing Usopp, it would be interesting to see how he would give his own spin to the enigmatic sniper, Sogeking.
A Deeper Lore About One Piece Gets Uncovered
The Water 7 saga gives fans a first glimpse of an object directly related to one of the ancient weapons. The blueprints for Pluton, the weapon that Mr. 0, also known as Sir Crocodile, has wanted for years, have actually been passed down for generations among the master shipwrights of Water 7. Eventually, these blueprints found their way to Franky.
As the Pluton’s full capacities get slowly uncovered, the lore of One Piece gets even deeper. To see it all play out in the live-action adaptation would be nothing short of epic. Here’s to hoping that Netflix’s One Piece season 2 will be a success, allowing fans worldwide to eventually witness Water 7 in its full live-action glory.
