Summary
- Skyblivion team reaffirms commitment to launch in 2025 despite Oblivion remaster leaks.
- The mod project, comprised of volunteers, recreates Oblivion in Skyrim’s engine.
- Developers believe players will benefit from both Skyblivion and a potential official Oblivion remaster.
The Skyblivion team has released a statement reconfirming its commitment to launching this year in the wake of the recent leaks of an official Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion remaster. Some fans had been concerned that an Oblivion remaster could hinder Skyblivion‘s release, although this doesn’t appear to be the case at present.
Skyblivion has been in full development since 2018 as a full remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion in Skyrim‘s engine. The project has been a mammoth task for the team, which is comprised entirely of volunteers recreating every asset from Oblivion from scratch. It is one of the most ambitious Skyrim mods of all time, and with so much time and effort put into the project, fans were understandably worried that the rumored official Oblivion remake could force Bethesda’s hand to stop it from releasing so close to the finish line.

Skyblivion May Be Missing a Huge Piece of the Puzzle
Skyblivion, the upcoming fan-made remake of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, looks incredibly ambitious, but it’s missing one major piece of the puzzle.
In a lengthy statement posted on Bluesky, the Skyblivion team reconfirmed that it still plans to release in 2025, stating that “Bethesda has always been supportive of community projects like ours, and we don’t see that changing anytime soon.” It also pointed out that there’s “no need for comparisons or a sense of competition between Skyblivion and a potential official remaster,” claiming that “Both projects can exist and thrive together.” This gives fans “even more ways to enjoy the classic world of Cyrodiil.”
Skyblivion Team Claims “Players Will Be the True Winners” From Both Oblivion Projects
We are on track for our planned release later this year. The prospect of an official remaster is exciting. Players will be the true winners, having the opportunity to experience both a community-driven reimagining and a professional version of Oblivion.

The Skyblivion team’s message also states that “2025 promises to be a remarkable year for fans of Oblivion. We are confident that players will be the true winners, having the opportunity to experience both a community-driven reimagining and a professional, modern version of this beloved game.” Earlier this week, Skyblivion‘s lead developer spoke on the Oblivion remaster, echoing all the same sentiments that both projects can only be a good thing, even if there is a natural inclination for fans online to defend the long-awaited mod.
Although its existence has yet to be officially confirmed, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered screenshots leaked online earlier this week via the Virtuos website, rumored to be the developer of the project. No release date for the title is known yet, although there are some rumors that it could shadow-drop during the week of April 21, an exciting prospect considering its existence was mere hearsay just weeks ago.
