You Have to Pay Extra For Oblivion Remastered’s Horse Armor Quests DLC

Bethesda finally unveiled Oblivion Remastered to give everyone what they wanted. The announcement also mentioned the inclusion of free DLC, but certain Horse Armor in the game is not included as a freebie, and it feels like we’ve gone back in time.

We asked for it, and Bethesda delivered Oblivion Remastered. The long-awaited remaster is here after it was shadow dropped on April 22. You can set foot in Cyrodiil once more, and the historic setting has simply never looked this good. Alongside a showcase of revamped features and revitalized graphics was a declaration that all DLC is included.

The Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine expansions don’t cost a penny. We love this. What’s left people scratching their heads is the decision to charge for Horse Armor DLC…again.

Oblivion Remastered’s New Horse Armor Quests DLC Locked Behind Deluxe Edition

In 2006, Bethesda released paid DLC for Oblivion—Horse Armor. It was one of the first real moves toward microtransactions, and the decision was mocked and met with huge backlash.

Fast forward to 2025, and it seems to be happening again. You can choose between Oblivion Remastered‘s Standard Edition and Deluxe Edition. If you only fancy the normal, basic version, you still get a ton of the previous DLC included.

Also included is a Horse Armor Pack. So you still get some Horse Armor content for free. But new quests tied to fresh Horse Armor Sets are once again being admonished by the gaming community.

“Paid Horse Armor DLC. Oblivion is truly back,” said X user @ManyATrueNerd.

Whereas @ijustwontlose said: “If anyone spends a penny on this horse armor, you’ve learned nothing and can never talk about microtransactions.”

Is this Bethesda openly referencing the past decision while still weirdly charging for additional Horse Armor DLC? It’s a puzzling one for sure. Again, you do get the Horse Armor Pack with the base game, so you don’t necessarily have to pay for it.
