China has made it to the top six of Masters: Tokyo after EDward Gaming (EDG) upset former world champions LOUD without giving them a single map. EDG had never won a series against major international competition before Tokyo, but they have now proven that they are a well deserving team to stay in Masters Tokyo.
One of the key players for EDG was nobody, who won several important rounds for the team that led to their victory. In one round on Lotus, LOUD was on the way to make a comeback after winning the pistol round. However, nobody caught Less unaware and then took out Tuyz in a 1v1 duel. He then went on to eliminate aspas and cauanzin in quick fight, leaving saadhak with just a Frenzy and 18 HP. Smoggy was able to clean up saadhak to win the round, and EDG went on to win the map 13-6.
This victory is a huge boost for EDG’s confidence, and they will be a team to watch in the upcoming matches. They have shown that they can compete with the best teams in the world, and they will be looking to make a deep run in the tournament.
Despite a dominant 13-6 victory on Lotus, EDG’s win over LOUD was not without its challenges. The Brazilian team had several individual players who performed well, but they were ultimately unable to overcome EDG’s structured teamwork.
One of LOUD’s brightest stars was aspas, who went from having just five kills in the first half of Lotus to finishing with 16. The Brazilian superstar was particularly impressive in the second half, where he helped LOUD to close the gap on EDG.
Another player who stood out for LOUD was Less, who finished with 26 kills on Fracture. Less was able to get into a rhythm on Fracture, and he was a constant threat for EDG’s defense.
However, while LOUD had some individual brilliance, they were unable to match EDG’s teamwork. Four members of EDG finished the map on either 18 or 19 kills, while LOUD’s players were all over the map in terms of their kill count.
This difference in teamwork was ultimately what allowed EDG to win the series. LOUD had some great individual players, but they were simply not able to match EDG’s cohesiveness as a team.
This is the first time in Valorant that LOUD has exited an international event without winning a map. The Brazilian team will have to wait until Champions 2023 to get their chance to play again in VCT 2023 league.
LOUD coach fRoD was philosophical about the loss, saying, “I would never call this a step back for us.” He pointed out that LOUD faced some of the best teams in the world at Masters: Tokyo, and that they learned a lot from the experience.
As for EDG, they have made history by becoming the first Chinese team to reach the top six at Masters: Tokyo. Their Cinderella run continues as they face off against the loser of Paper Rex and FNATIC on Tuesday, June 20.
EDG’s Cinderella Run
EDG has been one of the most impressive teams at Masters: Tokyo. They have come from the lower bracket and defeated some of the best teams in the world, including LOUD and KRÜ Esports.
EDG’s success is due in part to their teamwork. They are a very cohesive unit, and they are able to adapt their playstyle to the different challenges they face.
EDG’s next match will be against the loser of Paper Rex and FNATIC. This will be a tough match, but EDG has shown that they are capable of beating any team on their day.
