Paper Rex made it to the top four of Masters Tokyo after defeating EDward Gaming 2-1. This was not the first time they had faced each other. In Champions 2022, Paper Rex had come out on top, which was a tough loss for EDward Gaming. Now, after nine months, they were clashing again in a lower bracket revenge match.
For Paper Rex, this game was an opportunity to show how far they could go with a substitute player. For EDward Gaming, it was a chance for redemption and hope. They wanted to avenge their previous loss and continue a remarkable journey that no Chinese team had achieved in the VCT.
The game started on Fracture, EDG’s chosen map. ZmjjKK from EDG made a strong start by getting four kills in the first pistol round, giving EDG an early advantage. But in the overall matches, Kang Kang’s performance was overall not meet the audience hype.
AfteR from EDG acknowledged Paper Rex’s aggressive playstyle, having previously faced them in Istanbul. However, he mentioned that they struggled to adapt to their pace and were continuously working on improving and learning from the experience to face them better in the future.
Despite the disappointment of not achieving a 2-0 victory against Paper Rex, EDward Gaming remains determined and motivated to come back stronger. They exceeded their own expectations and finishing in the top six is not satisfying enough for them. They have gained valuable insights from their time in Tokyo and will now participate in the Chinese qualifier for Champions, where they aim to prove themselves once again.
Meanwhile, Paper Rex advances in the lower bracket and will face NRG Esports for a spot in the lower finals. This will be the second time they face the OpTic core, having played against them only once in Copenhagen last year.
Paper Rex is confident in their abilities and looks forward to defeating the North American team once more. They understand the challenge that NRG presents and will do their best in the upcoming duel.
